Donald H. Dohma, 88 of rural Ponca, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.Funeral services will be Monday, January 4, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, Nebraska with Father David Liewer officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M at the church on Sunday, January 3, 2009, followed by a scriptural wake service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Donald was born February 18, 1921 in rural Ponca, Nebraska to Henry and Mary (Lowe) Dohma. He lived in rural Ponca all his life. He graduated from Ponca High School in 1939, and was always proud that his wife, children and grandchildren will have graduated from PHS. He drove a commercial truck to Chicago and traveled through the United States on an Indian motorcycle, and farmed. He married Audrey Bauman on June 3, 1953 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca. The couple moved to a farm two miles South of Ponca in 1953 and farmed there for 56 years, until his death.He loved to farm, as he did for over 65 years. He loved animals, especially his dogs, horses and purebred cattle. He grew up with Oliver, Hart Parr, Allis-Chalmers, John Deere and IHC tractors, as well as Dodge and Plymouth cars. He rarely missed an activity or sports event of his children or grandchildren. He loved playing cards, riding the 4-wheeler, ballroom dancing, visiting with friends and family, wintering in Texas, family vacations and the Clay County Fair. He would stop and visit with many of his farm neighbors. He always had a smile and loved to laugh and tease people. He never knew a stranger and loved to meet new friends.He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farm Bureau, the South Sioux City Eagles, Ponca Community Education Foundation, Inc. (Class of 1939), and the Ponca Community Club.Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Ponca; children, Susan and Doug Smith of Martinsburg, Nebraska, Kevin and Kim Dohma and Richard and Joni Dohma, all of Ponca; grandchildren, Katie and Tyler Uthof of Ponca, Brent and Blake Smith of Martinsburg, Courtney and fianc Ben Taylor, and Matthew Dohma of Ponca, Ryan, Jenna and Christopher Dohma of Ponca; great-granddaughter, Lily Ann Jessen of Bloomfield, Nebraska; many cousins; and a host of friends.Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Dohma.
