Donald Lee Comes

Donald Lee Comes passed away on November 21, 2020 from natural causes with his family present at his side. His service will be set at a later date.

 Donald was born June 15, 1939 in Watertown, SD to Erma and Ernest Comes (deceased) of Waverly, SD. Donald was the second son of the five children; Robert Comes(brother) of Waverly, married to the deceased Anne Mae Comes, Ronald Comes(brother) of Sioux Falls, married to Vicky Comes, Patty(sister) and Bob Lynch of Duluth, MN, and Gail(sister) and Gordon Bunting of Revillo, SD. Donald was married to Brbara Kranz in 1960. Donald is survived by his brothers and sisters and his six children, in order: Lynn and Rob Olson of Tekama, NE, Paul Comes (deceased) of Sioux City, IA, Sheryl and Steve Wohleb, Jason and Missy Comes of Omaha, NE, Monty and Erin Comes, Jacksonville, FL, Melisa Comes of Omaha, NE, , and Johnathon Comes and Jody Moats of Sioux City, IA. Donald had sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Donald is preceded in death by his parents Erma and Ernest Comes, his first wife Barbara Kranz, his son, Paul Comes, and his grandson, Benjamin Olson.

Donald loved his family and friends dearly, he was the “Head Honcho” at the Railroad Museum’s AG-Rail Festival. On the farming side, Donald loved old John Deere 2 cylinder tractors and planting/harvesting wheat with the threshing machine. Donald farmed in Waverly, SD before he started work in the mobile home industry for 50 years. He was production manager at Iseman and Sharlo Factories in Watertown, SD, Tekema, NE,  Trenton, MO, and Chickasha, OK. After working as production manager he worked in Tehran, Iran for Iseman Homes on a government housing contract.  He also worked for Baxter Mobile Homes in Sioux City as head ‘set up man’, then continued to start his own business called ‘Don Comes Mobile Home Service’ which he retired from.

            His hobbies included antique farming, woodworking, and restoring old John Deere tractors. He loved to teach old food recipes to his children and grandchildren. Donald was a great son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather by all. He is loved and missed deeply but now he is at peace. So now you can ‘Plow God’s Fields’. We will miss you.
