Donald A. Larson, 95, of South Sioux City passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 9, 2022 at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.  Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery.

Don was born the son of Carl and Mary (Olson) Larson on October 1, 1927 on a farm outside of Newman Grove, Nebraska.  He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1945.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946.  Don married Lois Mitchell on June 28, 1953 at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.  They were blessed with four children, Steven, Richard, Roger, and Beth. They made their home in Dakota City in 1960.  Lois passed away in 2020.

Don helped run the family business, Mitchell’s Trailer Court until it closed in 1985.  He worked for several years for the City of Dakota City before doing building maintenance and custodial work for both the South Sioux City schools and later Sergeant Bluff-Luton schools until his retirement in 1989.  In his retirement he enjoyed tinkering in the garage and doing woodworking projects for family and friends.

Don has been a faithful servant to this community for 60 years.  He volunteered his time at Hope Lutheran Church and served as the Mayor of Dakota City and on the City Council. He was also a volunteer fireman for Dakota City for 26 years and Fire Chief for one year.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to Hope Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland.

Don is survived by his children, Steven Larson (Janice Knight) and Richard Larson both of Dakota City and Beth (John) Longmoor of Olathe, Kansas; sister, Janet (Jim) Atkinson; five granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; son, Roger; and siblings, Gerald, Lyle, and Elinor.
