Donald O. Mohr, Jr., 87, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Nile Buch and Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Don was born in Sioux City, IA on July 2, 1927, the son of Donald O. Mohr, Sr. and Selma (Hangman) Mohr. He grew up in Ponca, NE and graduated from Ponca High School in 1944. He attended Wayne State College, and received his degree in Mortuary Science from California School of Science. He married Marilyn Schultz on April 18, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, NE. The couple moved to Gardena, California. Don worked for Northrup Aircraft and then United California Bank. They moved back to Ponca in 1962, where they owned and operated Mohr Funeral Home until his retirement in 1994. He received his 50 year pin as a funeral director in the State of Nebraska in 2000.During his years in Ponca, Don served on the City Council and was Mayor for a short while. He also served on the Ponca School Board. In his earlier years, Don drove in the stock car races in Riverside. He followed all sports, especially cheering for the Huskers and California Angels. Don also enjoyed carpentry, hunting, gambling and eating out.Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Marilyn Mohr of Ponca, NE; 2 sons, Donald O. Mohr, III and his wife Diane of Ponca, NE and John Mohr and his wife, Tricia of Odell, NE; 6 grandchildren, Donald O. Mohr, IV and his wife, Aimee of Wellington, CO, Sarah Mohr of Ponca, NE, Candi and her husband Randy Whitead of Sioux City, IA, Jeremy Mohr of Lincoln, NE, and Peyton and Paxton Mohr of Odell, NE; 4 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kysen, Hannah and Randall; and several nieces and nephews.Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Selma Mohr; step-mother, Lura Mohr; and a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Frank DeLong
