Donald E. "Donnie" Moritz, 64, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and son, departed this life on October 6, 2024, in Ames, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life honoring Donnie will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, located at 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, IA 51104. Friends and family are invited to gather from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Donnie was born in Sioux City on February 10, 1960, the son of Donald and Karen (Summers) Moritz. A proud graduate of West High School in 1978, Donnie further pursued his ambitions at WITCC in Sioux City. He carved a respected career as a bricklayer and roofer, lending his skilled hands to various local companies. His craftsmanship and work ethic left an indelible mark on the community he loved. Donnie married Rebecca Callender on June 5, 1993, and to this union, their beloved daughter, Aliee, was born.
Donnie's passions extended beyond the workplace; he found immense joy in the world of sports. He was an avid golfer and a devoted baseball enthusiast, relishing each moment spent with friends and family on fairway. His joy for these activities was intertwined with his love for those who shared them, fostering connections that spanned well beyond the games themselves.
He leaves behind his beloved father, Don Moritz of Sioux City, sisters Ronda (Tim) Long of San Antonio, TX, and Teresa (Dave) Illig of Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by his cherished grandson, Noah, along with many nieces and nephews, whose lives he enriched with his kindness and unwavering support.
Though he grieves the absence of his mother, Karen Moritz, and his treasured daughter, Aliee Moritz, who have predeceased him, Donnie's loving legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His warmth and laughter will be dearly missed but forever remembered, a shining beacon of a life well-lived.
