Donald Everett Persinger, 86, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 3, 2022. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8th at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery. Donald was born on January 12, 1936 in Jackson, NE to Francis “Red” and Helen (Nelson) Persinger. He attended South Sioux City High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 8 years before being honorably discharged. He was very proud of his time in the military. He was even appointed Honorary Air National Guard Recruiter. Don was a very patriotic man who loved his country and enjoyed taking his family to air shows. He was united in marriage to Joyce McPherson on February 27, 1965 in Onawa, IA. Don loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He worked as a union electrician and for his father at Reds Electric. He enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and eating good food. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the South Sioux City American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Eagles. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Joyce Persinger, Sioux City, IA; children: Dean (Paula) Persinger, Eagle, NE, Donna (Milo) Duque, LeMars, IA, Joel (Corissa Thompson) Persinger, Homer, NE, Patrick Persinger, Sioux City, IA, step-daughter, Jane (John) Parsons, Peacham, VT; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert “Bob” Persinger and several brothers and sisters. Don was devoted to his wife and family. He is loved dearly and will be missed by all.
