Donald (Tim) J. Merchant, 78 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away at a Sioux City hospital on Friday, May 28, 2010.Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Father Dan Wittrock and Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. He married Janet Hall on February 12, 1955 in Jackson. They made their home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He worked at Armour Packing Company, and then operated his own excavating business for 30 years.He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City.Survivors include his wife, Janet of South Sioux City, NE; 7 children, Kathryn (Dave) Schable of Dakota City, NE, Kenneth (Becky) Merchant of Omaha, NE, Richard (Deb) Merchant of South Sioux City, NE, Thomas (Joyce) Merchant of Sioux City, IA, Barbara (Rami) Mawlawi of Fort Collins, CO, Jo Marie (Lee) Madson, and Nancy (Joseph) Schambach, all of Sioux City, IA; 20 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, John Leo (Sheryle) Merchant of South Sioux City; 1 brother-in-law, Clyde Rabb of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews.Tim was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Jane Merchant; 1 sister, Shirley Rabb; and a step-grandchild, Nicolas Slagter.
