Dora Mae Waters Cartee, 97, of Savannah, Georgia, and widow of John Pershing Cartee, died Friday, July 12, 2019 surrounded by her family in Sioux City, Iowa. Celebration of Dora’s life will be a visitation and prayer service, Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Her son-in-law, Pastor Mark McGlohon will be officiating.
Dora was born on January 31, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia to Alger Robert Waters and Luna L. Thompson. She attended business school and worked as an accountant as a profession. In 1952, she married her sweetheart John Cartee and moved to Savannah, Georgia where she continued work as an accountant. She worked until she was privileged to retire and stay home with her grandchildren.
Dora excelled in her communication skills, took great pride in her grandchildren, and loved spending time with her friends and family. She got a great thrill in playing games and staying up late enjoying her sweets. She was active in the Baptist church and her faith remained important to her. She was a resident of Westwood Specialty Care where she loved activities, games, and spending time with all her friends. Dora was grateful for the care she received. She was especially grateful for Jodi and Heather who went above and beyond to see she was loved and cared for following the death of John.
Dora is survived by a daughter Jane (Mark) McGlohon of Sioux City, IA. A son David Cartee of Guyton, Georgia. Her grandchildren Matthew McGlohon, Michaela McGlohon of Sioux City, Iowa and Savannah (Justin) Genaille of Port Royal, South Carolina. Great grandsons Collin, Daniel, and Elijah. Dora is preceded in death by her husband John Pershing Cartee her parents, 5 siblings, 4 children and her grandson, Christopher Cartee.
