Doris Jean Carnell

Doris Jean Carnell, 82, formerly of Ponca, Nebraska passed away at the Porter Hospice in Johnson Center, Denver, Colorado on August 31, 2009.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska. Interment of the cremains will follow in the Ponca City Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Doris was born in Ponca, Nebraska on October 21, 1926 to Gene and Minnie (Hartson) Carnell. She attended the West Union School west of Ponca and graduated from the Ponca High School in 1943. She worked at the Ponca Dry Cleaners and the Ponca Bakery for several years before attending a summer session at Wayne State Teachers College. She then taught in a rural school in Nebraska before enrolling in the Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Upon her graduation from Northwestern Bible School in 1953, Doris moved to Denver, Colorado, where she lived until her death. Doris was a successful business woman in Denver, owning and operating dry cleaning and shirt laundry business until her retirement.Doris was very active in the show dog community in the Denver area, as a breeder, trainer, and judge of the pug breed. Many of the dogs of this breed, which she raised and showed, became American and Canadian champions.She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; four cousins and a great host of very special friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, six brothers and several nieces and nephews.
