Doris Lohry, 91 passed away unexpectedly at home in Sioux City July 2, 2022.

Doris was born February 6, 1931 to Oscar & Irene (Woodard) Bjork in Lehigh, Iowa. She was the middle of three children. Doris loved the little Des Moines River town of Lehigh where she grew up, and claimed to be a tom boy, always playing outside. She played basketball on the school team and loved it. She left when she graduated high school and went to Sioux City where she got her nursing degree at Methodist Hospital. There she met and married Kermit Lohry in 1951. They had 7 children in 11 years.
Doris and Kermit included the kids in most all of their ventures including flying airplanes, riding horses and competing in rodeos, snow skiing, playing tennis and much more. She had a single engine airplane pilot’s license. Most summers included some kind of traveling. She loved her children and grandchildren and loved seeing them succeed in various occupations and activities.
Her courage and spirit of adventure carried into all of Doris’s life. In the early 80’s, she moved out west to California, then Oregon, where she committed her life to Jesus Christ. She did mission work in Albania and Cambodia when she was in her 70’s. She moved back to Sioux City and lived the last 12 years here. Doris attended the 6th Street Church of Christ and spent a lot of time at Siouxland Center for Active Generations. She also loved to go to activities at Yasha Ministry on Friday Evenings. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
Doris is survived by her 7 children Kathy (Carlton) Smith of Sioux City, Debbie (Rick) Smith of Port Orford, OR, Kermit (Shauna) Lohry of Boulder, CO, Diane Widner of Sioux City, Kirk (Kristina) Lohry of Matthews, NC, Damon (Karen) Lohry of Sioux City and Krag (Genna) Lohry of Port Elizabeth, South Africa; her brother John Bjork & wife Verval of San Diego, CA; she also had 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by Kermit, her parents, her sister Bette and her grandson Carlton Pierce Smith, Jr.
Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
