Sioux City, Iowa

Dorothy L. Bock, 96, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, at Pioneer Valley Living and Rehab in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Dorothy, the daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Franssens) Crellin, was born on September 12, 1928, in Sioux City. Dorothy grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.

Throughout her life, Dorothy demonstrated a remarkable work ethic, beginning her career shortly after high school. She worked at Morey's and Raymond's in Sioux City before spending many years in sales at the Sioux City Journal, where she dedicated herself until her retirement.

On June 6, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Arthur "Art" J. Bock at Whitfield United Methodist Church in Sioux City. They were blessed with four children. Throughout the years, Dorothy and Art enjoyed dancing, time with family and friends, and were season ticket holders at the Community Theater.

Family was the cornerstone of Dorothy's life. She is remembered for her quick wit, loving nature, and her ability to touch the lives of those around her in a positive way. Dorothy cared deeply for everyone she met, treating them like family. Her passions included cooking, attending craft club, participating in neighborhood coffee gatherings, and caring for her many pets ("fur babies") over the years. She was a devoted life-long member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, where she not only worshipped but also took part in their annual peanut brittle fundraiser and rummage sale.

Dorothy is survived by her four children: Barbara Baldwin of Emerson, NE, Carolyn (Layton) Jensen of Thurston, NE, Edward (Janet) Bock of Sioux City, IA, and Doug (Renee) Bock of Sioux City. She took great joy in her family, which includes ten grandchildren: Carrie (Patrick) Hall of Indianapolis, IN; Jessie (Erik) Christopherson of Jefferson, SD; Nick (Susan) Jensen of Lakeville, MN; Ryan (Deenna) Jensen of Okoboji, IA; Courtney (Travis) Walk of Colorado Springs, CO; Amanda (Bryan) Kutter of Morehead, MN; Melissa Bock of Cozad, NE; Travis Bock of Hinton, IA; Amber Bock of Omaha, NE; and Emily (Jake) Oehlerking of Sergeant Bluff, IA, along with seventeen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur "Art" J. Bock; her parents, Thomas and Carrie Crellin; and her sister and brother-in-law, Martha "Evelyn" and Joe Calligan.
