Dorothy C. Hupke

August 21, 1932 — February 9, 2022

Dorothy C. (Fitzpatrick) Hupke, 89 of Cherokee, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 after a long illness.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Brad Pelzel as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Dorothy was born on August 21, 1932 in Danbury, Iowa, the fourth of eight children to Albert S. and Ruth C. (Hegarty) Fitzpatrick.  After spending her early years in Danbury, the family moved to Sioux City in the 1940’s.  Dorothy graduated from Heelan High School with one of their first graduating classes, the Class of 1951.  She married Dwayne V. “Hup” Hupke at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Dorothy was employed at a local pharmaceutical company in Sioux City before becoming a bookkeeper for Western Iowa Area Education Agency, until her retirement.  Never one to be still for long, she found new employment after retirement with the Sioux City School System as a school bus attendant, until her illness forced her to complete her working years.

Dorothy has been a source of humor (sometime colorful) and joy to her family and friends over the years.

Dorothy is survived by her brother James (Suzanne) Fitzpatrick of Overland Park, Kansas, sister Carol (Fitzpatrick) (John) Maxwell of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband of over 60 years, Dwayne in 2020, brother Paul J. (Lois) Fitzpatrick, sisters Rosemary F. Bauer, Marjorie F. (Robert) Ashe, Beverly F. (Richard) White, and Connie F. (Robert) Dugan.

Her family would like to express a special thank you to Leo and Kathy Hupke, and Barbara and Larry Rousselle for the love and support they provided Dorothy throughout her illness.  Another thank you is warranted for Accura Healthcare of Cherokee for their great care of Dorothy.
