She was baptized on April 29, 1923, attended church and Sunday School at Zoar Presbyterian Church located in the country near George, IA. She attended country school at Grant #4 near her parent's home. After attending school, Dorothy helped with housework and childcare in various homes. She grew up in the 1930's and because her family lost their farm during the Great Depression as well as the death of three siblings, she learned at an early age how to work hard and continued to do so all of her life. On June 7, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to her one true love, Clarence Krause, of Winnebago, NE at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, IA. This union was blessed with 7 children (5 daughters and 2 sons). They worked for farmers in Lyon County, IA for 7 years. One of their first homes was a school house turned into a home where they were very happy. In October 1947, they moved to Winnebago, NE. and farmed near Winnebago and Emerson, NE. In 1955, they purchased a farm west of Ponca, NE. In 1988, they moved to their home in Ponca. Clarence passed away on November 13, 2004. They celebrated 64 ½ years together. Dorothy enjoyed being a farmer's wife and a partner in the Crow's Seed Corn business with Clarence. She loved her home and decorating it. She collected many dolls and teddy bears. She was always at work in her vegetable and flower gardens. Nature was part of the beauty in her life. She was a wonderful cook and always made delicious food that her family and many others enjoyed. She also loved to travel and spent time in her later years with her many friends at the Senior Center and the local restaurant. Her faith in God was so important as she shared it with her family whom she loved so much. Music and singing were a joy for her. Dorothy was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca until its closure. She joined the United Methodist Church where she was currently a member.
