Douglas "Doug" L. Moninger, 54, of Dakota City, NE passed away at his residence on Friday, August 18, 2017.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 A.M., with the Rosary recited at 10:45 A.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Doug was born on April 9, 1963 in Omaha, NE, the son of Roy and Ruth (Semrau) Moninger. He grew up in Wilmington, IL and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1981. He moved to Nebraska where he lived with his aunt and worked in maintenance at IBP. Doug married Johnette Dailey on October 28, 1983 and to this union 4 children were born, Cody Charles, Kaya Elizabeth, Colt William and Cort Michael. He worked as a pipe welder in the Siouxland area until he got hurt on the job. Doug earned his Associate Degree in Computer Programming from Western Iowa Tech., then worked at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, Gateway 2000 in North Sioux City, SD and ended his career working for eBay and PayPal.He did whatever he could to provide for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, trapping, working with his hands, building, remodeling, metal detecting, treasure hunting, coin collecting and traveling to see his family in Burwell and Lyons, NE and Illinois.Survivors include his wife, Johnette Moninger of Dakota City, NE; children, Cody (Alethea) Moninger of Lincoln, NE, Kaya Moninger (Benjamin Rehling) of Sioux Falls, SD, Colt (Megan) Moninger of Sioux City, IA, Cort Moninger (Whitney Wilkins) of Dakota City, NE; grandchildren, Isabelle Lynn, Gunnar, Nora and Felina Moninger, and Phinyx Douglas Moninger; 1 great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Nemeiksis; his mother, Ruth Chew; sister, Debra (Scott) Stickel; and brother, Doby (Alicia) Moninger all of Wilmington, IL; sisters, Amy Reeder (fiancé, Ken Kuczero) of New Lenox, IL and Carolann (Yariv) Cohen of Northbrook, IL; mother-in-law, Norma Jean Dailey of Dakota City, NE; brother-in-law, Mike (Jean) Dailey of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Tia (Doug) Baumann of Sioux City, IA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Moninger; his dad, Carrol Chew; father-in-law, John Dailey; paternal grandparents, Roy and Lela Moninger; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Amanda Semrau; grandparents, Pete and LaVerne Tetzlaff; nephew, Joe DesRochers; and his best friend, LeRoy Hovendick.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designations to be made at a later date.
