Douglas “Doug” Siefker, 87, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Reverend Kenny Hsu will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Doug Siefker was born March 16, 1934, to Frank E. Siefker and Gladys Pierce Siefker
in Mapleton, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Mapleton, Iowa and graduated
with the class of 1952. He attended Iowa State University for a semester. Then he
became an autobody repairman for the next 11 years. During that time, he was served
six years in the Army National Guard.
During that time, he also played around with electronics. His Dad was an electrical
engineer and started him in that interest. In 1963, he turned his hobby into his
occupation and became an electronics’ technician with AT&T Communications. He
continued with AT&T, until he retired in 1995. During retirement he enjoyed restoring old
cars. Over the years he completely restored 5 antique cars.
On June 1, 1960, he married Wilma Fick in Mapleton. To that union, three children were
born--David, Scott and Todd. The family did a lot of traveling in his restored cars. He
loved traveling in his model Aʼs. He and Wilma enjoyed many outing with friends in the
cars over the years. He also enjoyed helping other people fix their cars too.
The cars not only looked good, but also performed well too.
Doug was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years, He also was a
Member of the Siouxland Antique Car Cub as well as the SERPACI car club from Storm
Lake, Iowa. He was also a member of the Noon Lions Club after he retired till his health
declined. Doug enjoyed having friends over and singing along with the family’s player
piano. He especially loved it when the family could all get together. The family spent a
week together each year at Camp Okoboji, one of his favorite times. Another favorite of
his was going on nature walks. He taught himself on many subjects.
Doug is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma; his three sons David; Scott (Lisa); and
Todd (Allyson). Also, he is survived by his grandchildren--Becky Walters, Michelle
Kuecker, Bryan Siefker, Grace Larkin, Nate Siefker, Bryce Siefker, Matthew Siefker,
Aubrey Trometer, and William Siefker. He is also survived by one brother Kent Siefker, his wife’s two sisters: Alta Patterson and Opal Maguire; and four great grandchildren Jack, Skye, and Jude Walters and David Kuecker, as well as a daughter-in-law Kelly Siefker. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters in law, Carol Siefker, Esther Rickert, and Dora Chellew, and two brothers-in-law, Wilfred and Arnold Fick.
