Douglas E. Stoddard

Douglas E. Stoddard, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with a visitation from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Doug was born March 23, 1951 in Sioux City, the son of Elmer and Beulah (Stroman) Stoddard. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating in 1969. Following high school, he attended 2 years of college at Kirkland College where he studied nursing. Doug served in the United States Army for 4 years during the Vietnam War where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he moved back to Sioux City and started his family. Doug worked many different jobs including prisoner transporter, mechanic, and trucker. He also taught sign language and was a substitute teacher at Everett Elementary School. On September 6, 2008, he married Vickie Riibe in Sioux City.

 

Doug was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Family was most important to him; he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, having family gatherings at Riverside Park, and cooking large family meals. He enjoyed fishing most of all as well as camping, junking, going to yard sales and rummage sales, and working on lawnmowers and snowblowers.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Vickie Stoddard of Sioux City; children James Babcock of Cherokee, IA, Rosada (James) Swan of Sioux City, Beulah (fiancé Matt Abbott) Gill of Sioux City, Crystal (fiancé Tom) Kidd of Sioux City, step-son Steven Martin Jr., Daniel (Candi) Martin of South Sioux City, NE, Byron Martin-Stoddard of Sioux City; grandchildren Cody, Dakota, Maelynne, Keegan, Rachael, Noah, Heavenly, Josiah, Britteny, Isaac, Brady, James, Josie, Emily; sisters Catherine (David Coston) Roth of Elizabethtown, KY, Jackie Stoddard of Sioux City; favorite niece Linda Roth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son James, brothers Skip, Paul, Jerry Stoddard, and sister Judy Campbell.
