Earl Wege

Earl R. Wege, 94 of Ponca, NE, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Elms Care Center in Ponca, NE.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE. Burial will be in the Ponca City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com

Earl was born August 2, 1925 in Norfolk, NE; he was the son of William H. and Edna (Ferris) Wege. Earl grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII.

After the service, Earl began working for Consumers Public Power (now NPPD). He worked for ten years in Scribner and three years in Walthill before moving to Ponca and working for 60 years there.

On September 15, 1951, Earl married Velma Petz in Scribner, NE.

Earl served as a volunteer fireman in Scribner, Walthill and Ponca. He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca and was also a member of the Commercial Club and the V.F.W. He was a charter member of the First Rescue in Scribner, NE.

Survivors include his wife Velma of Ponca; two daughters: Linda Siebenborn of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary Goodrich (Steve) of Omaha, NE; his brother: Robert Wege (Mary Ann) of Council Bluffs, IA; 8 grandchildren: Shannon Johnson (Mark), Nicole Decker (Tom), Gina Roberts, J.D. Roberts (Kayla), Laura Siebenborn, Andrew Siebenborn (Andrea), Christopher Goodrich (Kara) and Jamie Godtel (Anthony); 14 great grandchildren, a niece and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Susan Roberts, and a grandson Scott Siebenborn.
