Edith M. Chester

Edith M. Chester, 79, of South Sioux City, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022.  Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.  Visitation will be Monday, January 10, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. all held at the church.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edith was born the daughter of Clarence and Marie (Dethlefs) Etchison on April 18, 1942 in Mapleton, Iowa.  The family moved to South Sioux City in 1961.  She graduated from Central High School.  Edith married Eugene “Gene” Chester on August 15, 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Edith provided daycare out of her home for over 30 years until her retirement. 

She enjoyed playing cards and being around her family.

She was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Edith is survived by her children, Steven Chester of Omaha, Dawn Anderson of Sioux City, and Christine Martin of Northfield, Minnesota; siblings, Marliss, Robert, Shelly, and Mark; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; and siblings, Wyland, Mardeen, Clarrene.
