Edward F. “Ed” O’Brien, 73, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at a local care facility. Memorial services will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Ed was born on April 10, 1949 in Sioux City, to Edward and Mary (Schroeder) O’Brien. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1967.
He was in the insurance industry throughout his working career, beginning with Tri State Insurance in Luverne, MN, then to Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, NE, and finally down to New Orleans, LA, where he worked for Hanover Insurance. Ed finished his career as the Deputy Commissioner of Property Casualty of the State of Louisiana.
Ed is survived by his sister, Mary O’Brien (Richard Kikuchi); a step-son, Michael Vaughn; and many loyal friends. Special thanks go to cousin, Fred Schroeder and Lynne Schroeder, Carter Dennis and Colleen Dennis; Bobbi Leninger; and Wayne Mediamolle, who were especially dedicated to assisting Ed in the final months of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
