Elaine T. Lipshutz

June 26, 1929 — December 2, 2021

Elaine T. Lipshutz, 92, of Grand Rapids, Mich., formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully Thursday, December 2, 2021.  Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 8th, at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City, with Rabbi Shaun Zell officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. For those unable to attend or due to social distancing concerns, please go to Meyer Brothers website (www.meyerbroschapels.com) for the link to the service.

Elaine was born on June 26, 1929, in Morrison, IL, the daughter of David and Sonya Tucker. She attended the University of Iowa where she met the love of her life Bob, her husband of 65 years. In 1950 before completing her studies, they married, settled in Sioux City where Bob became co-owner of Morey’s and Raymond’s Men’s Store and raised their family of four children. Decades later Elaine graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Briar Cliff College. Elaine was an active member of the Jewish community and pursued her passions for gardening, music, needlework, and socializing. Many who knew her thought her middle initial stood for “tomatoes” as she loved to eat, grow, and jar them.  After retirement, Bob and Elaine moved to Grand Rapids, MI. where she continued to be active in the Jewish community and to make many new friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Gilbert) Wynn; her sons David (Cindy) Lipshutz, Martin (Laura) Lipshutz, and Howard (Roberta) Lipshutz; sister, Rhea Tucker; brother Jay (Myrna) Tucker; brother-in-law Stan Lipshutz; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her parents-in-laws Morey and Fannie Lipshutz; her brother and sister-in-law, Sherwin and Marilyn Tucker; brother in-law and sister in-law Burton and Louetta Lipshutz; and her grandson, Micah Wynn.

Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Shalom, Sioux City Jewish Federation, Ahavas Israel (Grand Rapids), Jewish Federation of Grand Rapids, or The Clark Foundation (Grand Rapids).
