Elgin Herman Gruis

Elgin H. Gruis, 82, of Jackson, NE passed away May 14, 2021 at a local hospital.  A funeral service will be held Friday, May 21 at 11:00 A.M. at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Elgin was born on September 11, 1938 in Wagner, SD to Herman and Alma (Gaisbauer) Gruis.  He was united in marriage to LaVonne Peterson on February 17, 1962 in South Sioux City, NE, she preceded him in death in 2008.  Elgin drove a truck for Tri-State Steel, formerly Haakinson & Beatty Steel Co., for 50 years.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, his dogs, and enjoyed gardening.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Tammy Herbert, Homer, NE; special “adopted” daughter, MaryAnn Banys, Sioux City, IA; sister, Carolyn (Ellis) Heerman, Warrensburg, MO; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gruis, North Sioux City, SD; and several very special nieces and nephews with whom Elgin was close to.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings: Calvin, Merle, Harold, Gloria, Larry and Joan.
