Elmer E. "Gene" Roach

Elmer E. “Gene” Roach, 82 of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024. A memorial service will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. 

Elmer was born the son of Elmer and Rosa (Jackson) Roach on April 27, 1942 in Enid, Oklahoma. He married Susan Wentworth on February 26, 1977. They made their home in South Sioux City.

Elmer was a trucker through and through. It was his identity and what he loved to do. He worked for JTI Trucking, U.S. Xpress Inc. and Guntren Trucking until he retired. He earned a Trucker of the Year Award and traveled to all 48 states and Canada over his long career. 

In his retirement he did countless crossword puzzles and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter. She could talk him into driving her anywhere. They enjoyed many adventures together. He was a proud Sooners fan and lived in a house divided with Sue rooting for the Huskers. 

Elmer is survived by his wife, Sue Roach; daughter, Kathie (Mike) Lindgren; and granddaughter, Whitney Lindgren all of South Sioux City, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jesse and Joyce Ann.
