Emma was born July 30, 2002 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Paul James Summers and Angie Marie Kerr. She attended kindergarten-5th grade at the Deane Elementary School from 2009-2014. She was an active little girl who enjoyed playing at the park, games, shopping at the Dollar Store, and going out to eat. She had a love of animals and enjoyed her dog, cat, and hamster. Emma wrote essays and poems that were awarded state medals and often loved curling up on the couch reading a book or watching her favorite TV shows.
In 2014, Emma moved to Sioux City where she attended West Middle School and West High School, graduating in 2020. While in school, Emma was involved in the school orchestra, proudly playing her blue violin. She was active for four years in the JR-ROTC and volunteered at Girls Inc. in her spare time. Emma worked for Hy-Vee while in High School. She was a student at the University of South Dakota, completing her freshman year in May. While in college, Emma worked for Sanford Memorial Hospital.
Emma loved helping others in need. She was a good listener and could talk to anyone with ease. Emma had a very outgoing personality and free spirit, but was also very dedicated and loving. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all her knew and loved her, but as she would say, “stay strong, and go the extra mile when needed.”
Survivors include her parents Paul Summers of Lakewood, CO and Angie Kerr of Sioux City; sister Chloé Kerr of Sioux City; maternal grandparents Jim and Lola Kerr of Sioux City and paternal grandfather Ed Summers of Denver, CO and Karen Summers of Basalt, CO; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many beloved friends.
Those waiting to greet Emma in Heaven are her great grandparents Lowell and Christina Steeg and great grandmother Ruth Summers.
