Eric B. Wiebe

Eric B. Wiebe, 49 of Ponca, Nebraska passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 19, 2009.At Eric's request, no funeral services will be held. A celebration of Eric's life will be held at a later date.Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Eric was born March 15, 1960 in Hastings, Nebraska to Bruce and Deanne (Gerberding) Wiebe. The family moved to Bassett, Nebraska when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett in 1978. He attended college in Kearney and Lincoln. He was a police officer for the Beatrice Police Dept. for 6 years. He graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center on December 17, 1982. Eric became a Conservation Officer in Gage County on December 1, 1987. He moved to Ponca in 1990, where he served as a Conservation Officer until his death. He was also a Firearms Instructor for the Game Commission. He married Judy (Wenke) Frisch on October 7, 1994 at the Ponca State Park.Eric was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Sq 123 of Bassett and Pheasants Forever. He was active in the Youth Mentor Hunt Program. He helped organize the Expo at the Ponca State Park, and served as a member of the Expo Advisory board and Expo Steering Committee.He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a custom knife maker. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.Survivors include his wife, Judy Wiebe of Ponca; his parents, Bruce and Deanne Wiebe of Bassett, NE; sister, Amy (Wiebe) Jackson of Bassett, NE; nieces, Megan M. Jackson of Seattle, WA, Kacie L. Jackson of Lincoln, NE; Godson, Kyle B. Jackson; aunts and uncles, Gary Wiebe of Beatrice, NE, Yvonne DeRiese of Hastings, NE and Maggie & David Spilker of Beatrice, NE; step-sons and their wives, Chris and Amber Frisch of Round Rock, TX and Troy and Jena Frisch of Kuna, ID; grandchildren, Makenna, Josie, Bergen, Korbin and Addison; 9 cousins.Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laura and Earl Wiebe and Herman and Maria Gerberding; step- grandfather, Gus Wiebe; uncles, Loyal Gerber and Jesse DeRiese.
