Eugene “Butch” M. Dirks, 73, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Kenny Hsu officiating. Private burial with military honors will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, IA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Eugene Martin Dirks, the son of Martin E. and Helen (Kenowith) Dirks, was born October 7, 1946 in Sioux City. He graduated from Central High School then served in the United State Navy from 1964 to 1967.
Butch was united in marriage to Audrey Smith and they had one son, Chad. Butch and Audrey later divorced.
Butch worked at Reliable Auto Store and at Ben Fish for 24 years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He loved to play solitaire, pool, darts, and do crossword puzzles in the paper. He truly enjoyed his western movies and his Bud Light.
Butch is survived by his son, Chad Dirks of Sioux City; two sisters: Loes (Bill) Abbe of South Sioux City, NE and Karen Dirks of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and Dawn (Jay) Mote of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Betty Williams and Shirley Figge.
