Gene Levine, 83 years old, passed away peacefully at his home. Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 29, at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in memory of Gene Levine to Hospice of Siouxland. Gene was born in Creston, Iowa and grew up in Sioux City. He graduated from Central High School in 1957. He went on to the University of Iowa and studied business. After 2 years, he enlisted in the Army Reserves and served for 6 years, then went back and finished his degree at Morningside College. He moved to Los Angeles where he met the love of his life, Jan. Gene owned a hearing aid business called Northwest Hearing Aid Center, and later, he enjoyed working for Gateway Computers. He always looked for the humor in life, and had his standing jokes that he loved to share. Gene enjoyed golf, and loved basketball and was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan. He played piano and encouraged his children and grandchildren to play too. He was a wonderful Dad, Husband, and Friend. Left to honor his memory are Jan, his wife of 55 years, children Barbra (Pak) Levine Pakravan living in China, Jack (Kristen) Levine living in Overland Park, and Grandchildren (Lauren and Ethan Levine), and Randy Levine and his partner, Bob Presz of Milwaukee. Those family members that preceded Gene in death are his parents, Boris and Betty, his sister, Norma Bornarth, and infant twin sons, Robert and Richard.
