Evelyn Oldsen, 91, of Ponca died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, with the Dr. Rev. Neal Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Mrs. Oldsen was born March 26, 1919 in Allen, Nebraska, the daughter of Andrew and Viola (White) Christopherson. She helped on her family farm, and graduated from Allen High School in 1937. She worked in the Dixon County Clerk's office from 1937 until 1944, where she became deputy county clerk.She married Darrell "Bud" Oldsen on September 8, 1944, in the First Lutheran Church of Allen. The couple farmed in rural Ponca until 1984. She worked in the Bank of Dixon County for 26 years, from 1958 until 1984. They moved into Ponca in 1986. Darrell passed away October 9, 1999. After her husband's death, Evelyn helped manage the family farm. Until her illness she continued to prepare noon meals for her sons during farming season.She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and was a faithful member of the women's quilting group. She was an early member of two educational groups, P.E.O. and Entre Nous, and was a member of the Hawthorne Chapter No. 168 Order of the Eastern Star of Ponca. She continued to be a member of Entre Nous until her death and loved the fellowship of other Ponca women.Survivors include her two sons: Craig Oldsen and his wife, Heather, and Brad Oldsen, all of Ponca.She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her sister and brother-in-law, Lotus "Dode" and Roger Hill; and her parents.
