Florence W. Snoozy, 81 of Sioux City, passed away Monday December 27, 2021 at home. Services for Florence will take place January 8th, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave 51106. Visitation will start at 10 am and memorial service at 11am. A lunch will follow 12:00 P.M. at the same location.
Florence was born on July 1, 1940 in Winnebago, NE to parents Benjamin Laravie and Muriel (Knudsen) Laravie. Florence lived in Verdel most of her life until moving to Sioux City after her marriage to Richard (Dick) Snoozy Sr. on February 5,1963. To this union two sons were born, She had four sons total. Andrew David Laravie, Benjamin LaPointe, Richard Snoozy Jr., and Fred Snoozy.
Florence had 11 grandchildren that she was always tickled to see. Richie Eilers, Austin Eilers, Tommy Eilers, Kennedy Harris, Evelyn Balkers-Snoozy, Tamisha Miller, Ben Snoozy, Stacy Laravie, Tracy Laravie, Kimberly Laravie, and Andrew Laravie. She had 14 great-grandchildren. She fostered many children into her home and took many of her nieces and nephews in as well. Her niece Kim was like a daughter to her.
Florence had many friends whom looked out for her over the years. Two of them were Mary and Cyndi. They took her on shopping trips, rides, and dinners. Florence enjoyed most was participating in activities with her tribe. The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. She went to elders meeting and loved sharing stories with the other tribal elders. She was a great granddaughter to Chief Standing Bear and was proud of this.
Most of all Florence had a big heart. Even thought she had very little she would help anyone. She was very simple and humble. Her impact on those around her are anything but simple. She brought joy and laughter to so many and was loved by so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Muriel, Husband Dick, Siblings Roger, Carol, Judy, Candace, and her eldest son David. She is survived by her 3 sons Richard Snoozy Jr., Ben Lapointe, and Fred Snoozy and her 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
