Frances L. Connick-Prewitt, 97, of Sioux City, passed away at her residence on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Born October 28, 1927, on a farm west of Niobrara, Nebraska to Benjamin and Clara Thompson.
Frances was number 8 in a family of 10 which included 5 boys and 5 girls.
She learned what it was to work hard early in life on the farm by cooking, cleaning, canning and sewing.
She graduated from Niobrara High School.
In January of 1945 she married, Darrell Connick. To that union 5 sons were born. Jim, Ron, Ken, Terry and Jeff.
In the first 25 years of marriage, they moved 28 times.
House to house and town to town, wherever the railroad work took them.
Frances never met a stranger, only friends she hadn't met just yet. She followed the boys sports and activities with vigor.
She loved to camp, fish, and hunt deer.
Once winning $1,040.00 tagged walleye.
Frances worked many jobs, short order cook, grocery store checker, stocker, public school cook and finally working for J.C. Penney's for 25 years from which she retired in 1985 .
Her husband Darrell passed away in 1992.
She then married Gerald Prewitt in 1994. They enjoyed traveling and bowling with friends.
She started making quilts for family and friends. She even made 440 quilts for veterans.
Frances canned up to 1000 jars of food from their garden every year.
Gerald (Jerry) passed away in 2017.
Her life was made even better when Beth Slaven came into it.
She now knew what it was like to have a loving and caring daughter to help share life's burdens with.
Survived by sons, Jim (Kathy) and Jeff (Gloria) Connick; daughter in laws; Diane and Carolina; sister-in-law, Shirley and a late in life adopted daughter, Beth and husband Tom: many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also on the Prewitt side of the family. 83 plus in total.
Frances is proceeded in death by husbands, Darrell Connick and Gerald Prewitt; sons, Ron, Ken and Terry; daughter in law, Karen;
She counted her blessings and was ready for God when he was ready for her.
