Francis “Gene” Sorem, 73, of Millican, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on July 19, 2022 after a battle with Covid-19 at St. Joseph Hospital in College Station, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. Online condolences can be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Francis “Gene” Sorem was born on August 30, 1948 in Windom, Minnesota to Harry and Dorothy (Farber) Sorem. Gene attended school in Windom. He attended a two-year vocational school for business in Windom as well. Gene worked as a manager at Burger Kings and Pizza Huts, he also had a restaurant of his own called “Gene’s Gyros” which was located in Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City, Iowa. He also managed a couple different motels. He had worked for Daniel Jarvis Home Health in Texas for many years and he was still working for his own business, FGS Accounting Services before he fell ill.
Gene enjoyed woodworking, accounting, traveling, and going on cruises. He also like to debate politics and for a short time, he like to ride motorcycles. Then, he got the Pontiac Solstice and car shows became his new hobby. Most of all, he loved joking around and making people laugh, and spending time with his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sonia Ratman; two sons Curt Sorem and Terry (Angie) Sorem; granddaughter Brooklyn Sorem; two sisters Patty Rosenbrook and Judy (Jim) Dostal; as well as many nieces and nephews and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harry and Dorothy; brother Art Sayre; brother-in-law Steve Rosenbrook; and an uncle Al Sorem.
