Fredrick "Fred" E. Olson

July 9, 1935 — January 21, 2022

Fredrick “Fred” Eugene Olson, 86, of Sioux City, IA, passed away January 21, 2022 at a local hospital.  A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 27 at 11:00 AM at Morningside Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Private family burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements.  The family has requested that masks be worn.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Fred was born on July 9, 1935 in Cylinder, IA to Fredrick and Hannah (Christian) Olson.  He grew up in Cylinder before moving to Ruthven, IA where he graduated from high school.  It was there where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Moore.  They were married on September 4, 1955 in Ruthven.  The couple moved to Sioux City in 1970.  Fred worked as an electrician and later as a wholesale plumbing & heating salesman.  He was a great salesman and loved to travel all throughout the Midwest.  He met many wonderful friends during his travels.  Fred was very social and had his weekly coffee group with friends.  He could often be found riding his scooter around his neighborhood, delivering the Sunrise newsletter to neighbors.  He was an amazing repairman and could fix anything.  He loved working with tools and collecting them.  In his younger years he was a good athlete and his love for sports carried on to adulthood.  He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, and Morningside Mustangs.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 67 years, Barbara; daughters: Lesa (Greg) Prather, Gilbert, AZ, Angela (Bill) Brower, Sioux City, IA; grandchildren: Adam (Jessica) Prather, Chrissy (Justin) Gomez, Daniel (Gina) Prather, Lindsay, John and Drew Brower; greatgrandchildren: Audrey, Lincoln, Avery, Brie and Aurora; and several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Beverly Walstrom, Omaha, NE.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geneva Eaton; brothers-in-law: Virgil Walstrom and Don Eaton.
