Gale E. Avery, 87, of Sioux City, died Friday, April 2, 2021 at Sunrise Retirement Center. She had been in declining health for the last year or so.
Her friends will be able to visit her at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel from Wednesday, April 14th until Friday, April 16th from Noon until 7:00pm each day. Family will not be present. Private graveside services will be held for the family with Rev. Roger Madden presiding. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Gale was born April 6, 1933 in Sioux City, to William and Margaret (Foley) Lorenz. She attended Sioux City public schools and was in the second class to graduate from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School. She attended Briar Cliff College for one year. Gale married Chuck Avery on September 20, 1952. They lived for many years at McCook Lake, before moving to Sioux City, where they lived in the summer, spending winters at their home in Rancho Viejo, Texas from 1985 until 2015.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her children got older, at which time she was a bookkeeper at Avery Brothers for many years. She worked on the census for North Sioux City and McCook Lake and volunteered for many events at McCook School. Gale loved to play bridge with her friends as well as poker and other card games with her husband and their friends.
Gale is survived by her son Stephan, his wife Jeanne and their sons Ryan and Jonathan, son Mark, his wife Terri and their children Angela, Monica and David, daughter Jean, her husband Rick and their children Brian, Cari, Ashley and Chad, son Noel, his wife Teresa and their sons Christopher, Sam and Camden and her son Milt, his daughters Taylor and Kennedy and Milt's fiance Dr. Rena Kazos. She and Chuck have sixteen great-grandchildren.
Gale was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her parents; her sister Elaine and brother-in-law Bob Kipper and her brother Bill Lorenz and sister-in-law Maxine Schulenberger.
