Garrett J. Frimann, 18, of Lawton passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Country Celebrations in Sioux City. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Garrett was born on July 7th, 2002 in Chadron, Nebraska to Cassie and Larry Frimann. The family moved to Omaha in 2005 and spent 4 years there while Cassie finished college. During that time, the family welcomed another son, Drake Paul, and Garrett became a big brother. Garrett attended kindergarten in Omaha before the family relocated to the Lawton, IA area in 2009.
Garrett attended the Lawton Bronson school system. While there, he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, football, running track, and was on the archery and golf teams. Garrett loved racing his dirt bike and quad, and spent a lot of his time at Fiddler Creek motocross track.
Garrett began welding in high school and fell in love. He planned on continuing his training after graduation by attending The Ocean Corporation underwater welding program in Houston, TX.
Garrett worked briefly at Fleet Farm as a sales associate before being given an opportunity at Midwest Honda Suzuki Kubota. He developed a love for tools, and was excited to go to work every day.
Above all, Garrett was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were his true passions. Garrett spent countless hours with his Dad setting up decoy spreads, digging pit blinds, perfecting his calls, and helping his Dad run Black Goose Outfitters. He loved to hunt geese, ducks, turkey, cranes, pigeons, pheasant and deer.
Garrett’s collection of fishing gear would put many bait and tackle shops to shame. His room, the family’s garage and outbuilding were full of fishing gear. He fished every body of water he was able. In his younger days he was even known to throw a line into a bowl of dog water, a puddle, and a sandbox bucket he had filled with water. Garrett would fish in the blazing heat of the summer, or on the coldest day of winter. His passion was rewarded last winter when he and his buddy won their first ice fishing tournament.
Garrett is survived by his parents, Cassie and Larry Frimann; little brother, Drake Frimann; grandparents Deb and Larry Carlson of Nickerson, NE; grandma Kathy Frimann of Hay Springs, NE; aunt Kristina Hagan and uncle Brandt Hagan of Lincoln, NE; uncle David Frimann of Lincoln, NE; and cousins Brighton and Brooklyn Hagan of Lincoln, NE; not to mention the hundreds, if not thousands of friends Garrett met through the years.
All memorials collected will be donated to the Lawton Bronson School District to be used to support and enhance their suicide prevention program. It’s the family’s greatest hope that something good comes from this terrible situation.
