Gary Ellis Iverson, 76, of Newton, Iowa, formerly of Ponca, Nebraska passed away on April 20, 2010 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Memorial services will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:00A.M. with Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Gary was born on December 25, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to E.C. and Virginia ((Mikesell) Iverson. He married Sue L. Anderson on August 23, 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.His lifetime career included farming, 13 years with the Utah State Game Dept., Cattle Buyer and President of Wagner Garrison Abbot Commission Firm. In 1976 he bought and operated Island View Resort on Farm Island Lake, MN. Retired in 1985, he enjoyed his woodworking shop in Two Harbors, MN. In 1991 Gary and his wife moved to Rockport, TX, where they were members of the United Methodist Church. Gary was a 50+ year Member of the Masonic Lodge. He held a dual membership with the Morningside Lodge # 615 at Sioux City, IA and with the Franklin Lodge # 27 at Cedar City, UT, where he was a Master of the Lodge.He was preceded in death by his parents E.C. Iverson and Virginia Iverson, Ponca, NE. Survivors include his wife Sue, brother Jack M. Iverson of Palatine, IL, daughters Kristine S. McGrail, Cicero, IN, Barbara F. Versteegh of Newton, IA, son Hans E. Iverson, Richfield, MN, 2 sons-in-law, Thomas and Marvin, one daughter-in-law, Kerstin, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, we appreciate donations to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
