Gary Emil Klappal was born on March 14, 1949, in Winner, South Dakota to Theodore L (Ted) and Melba J (Dunlap) Klappal. He died March 12, 2025, while taking a cruise in the Caribbean. He completed grades 1-8 at St Mary’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Winner High School in 1967. After graduation his family moved to Sioux City and Gary followed a few months later. He went to Western IA Tech and received a Heating and Air Conditioning Degree.

Gary was a hard worker and had worked several places, including Zenith, Hoerner Waldorf, Floyd Valley Packing, WalMart, Pepsi and for over 34 years, delivered Domino Pizzas.

Gary met his last love, Anne, in November of 1995 and they were married May 18, 1996. They enjoyed 28 1/2 great years of marriage. Family was everything to Gary and his happiest moments were being with his family. Being from a large family and marrying into an even larger family, there were plenty. From family vacationing to holiday gatherings to work relationships to just doing things for his kids, his life was full of love and friendship.

Gary is survived by his wife Anne, his three daughters, Lisa Klappal, Shelley Klappal and Kristi (Jason) Cline, his four step daughters, Shelli (Jim) Selfridge, Lisa (Chris) Crum, Stephanie (Joe) Ienn and Melanie (Jeremy) Limoges, two sisters, Carol Gall and Mary (Rod) Hefner, a special cousin, Trish (Jay) Wiederrich, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Jim Brosovic, John & Sue Brosovic, Dan & Alice Brosovic, Sue & Galvin Fowler and Mary Jo & John Thase. Gary is also survived by 18 grandchildren, John, Veronica, Cody, Alex, Will, Ann, Cameron, Daniel, Michael, Alexandra, Thadd, Cole, Joe, Jonny, Adam, Morgin, Kaiden and Kyler and two great grandchildren, Charleigh and Analeigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard, Mike and David, one sister at birth, brother-in-law Andy Gall and a grandson, Jesse Herbst.

A visitation to honor Gary’s life will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Following services at the cemetery, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship at the funeral home.

Someone once told me…..you don’t get to spend the rest of your life with them, but they got to spend the rest of their life with you. And there is beauty in that.
