Gary Lee Sierk, 84, of South Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his residence surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Gary was born on January 14, 1938 in Sioux City, IA to Ernest and Mildred (Polzin) Sierk. Gary was a lifelong South Sioux City resident, and graduated high school in 1956. On August 20, 1960 Gary married the love of his life, Barbara Sweeney in Elk Point, South Dakota. Gary then went on to serve our nation in the United States Army from 1961-1963.
In 1964 they were blessed with their daughter Teresa.
Gary was a hard worker and worked several trades, including Nu-Way Sporting Goods, Postal Finance, and owning his own upholstery shop with partner Pooky (his cat) before retiring from Rogers Electric.
Gary was an Admiral in The Great Navy of the state of Nebraska. He was a former member of the Throttle Aires Hot Rod Club and the Siouxland Antique Car Club. Gary was also an avid Huskers fan, known throughout the neighborhood for his touchdown bell. Gary was a tough sumbitch until the very end.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Barbara Sierk; daughter Teresa Saugstad (Ryan); grandchildren: Chris Hansen (Megan), Alicia Hansen, and Shannon Hansen; great-granddaughter Daylynn Williams; sister Karin Owens; sister-in-law Phyllis Ford; brother-in-law Arlyn Wilson; brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Charlotte Sweeney; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donavon Sierk; brother-in-law Lee Owens; and sister-in-law Virginia Wilson; and nephew Kurt Wilson.
