George R. Knittel

Sr. Master Sergeant George R. Knittel, 84, of McCook Lake, SD passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Mohr Funeral Home, 1431 W. 29th Street, South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetary in Sioux City, IA with military rites by the Offutt Air Force Honor Guard, following a luncheon at the funeral home. George was born on January 19, 1929 in Jefferson, SD, the son of George Andrews and Juanita (Bruneau) Knittel. He grew up in the North Sioux City, SD area. George entered the U.S.Air Force at an early age and served for twenty-six years. After retiring from the service, George lived in Tampa Bay, Florida for thirty years before returning to his hometown area, settling in McCook Lake, SD, where he lived for the past six years. George is survived by his two sisters, Sherry Strong and husband, Eugene of McCook Lake, SD and Judith Sorensen and husband, Loren of Cherokee, IA; six nieces and three nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents and his wives, Heddy (Karsten) Knittel and Sonnet (Carter) Knittel.
