Georgia “Jo” Mae Parker, 61, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020 at her residence following a battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 24, 2020 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., also at the chapel. Reverend Doug Dill will officiate. Jo was born November 12, 1958 in Sioux City, Iowa to Thermon and Fauniel (Oman) Lenz. She grew up on a farm and attended Emerson school until she was 16 years old. She then moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska where she graduated in 1977. Following high school graduation, she attended Western Institute Technical Community College for one year. On November 20, 1982, she married Leonard Parker in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union, three daughters were born. Jo worked as a Nurse’s Aid at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Casa De Paz, and Mid Step Services at this time. The family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1986 where Jo worked as a Nurse’s Aid for the Department of Veteran Affairs. While in Tucson, she went to California briefly to assist with the recovery of injured earth quake victims. In 1990, the family moved to Fort Riley, Kansas for two years, then settled in Sioux City until the time of her passing. She worked at Embassy Rehab & Care Center in Sergeant Bluff and then for Pech Optical Corporation for 23 years as a service team leader.
Jo enjoyed sewing and horseback riding. She spent much of her time fishing with her husband.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband of 37 years, Leonard of Sioux City; daughters Amanda (Corey) Titus of Council Bluffs, IA, Jeannie (Adam) Schnoes of South Sioux City, Sarah Parker of Sac City, IA; brothers Bud (Beth) Lenz of North Sioux City, SD and Dale Lenz of Sioux City; sister Caren Lenz; and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, and granddaughter Charity Parker.
