He enjoyed following the activities of his children and grandchildren, coaching baseball, playing golf, bowling, playing cards with friends, and tinkering in the garage.
Left to honor his memory are his wife of 63 years, Rose Ann; children Joyce (Rich) Webb of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Gerald Jr (Teresa) of Mesa, Arizona, Nancy (Terry) Ruehle of Nederland, Texas, Dale of Omaha, Nebraska and daughter-in-law Deanna Mayo of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Cheryl Mayo-Jay and a son Steven Mayo; his brothers John, Donald, Earl (Barney), James and Douglas; three sisters, Joyce Mayo, Louise Christensen and Blanche Flaa.
