Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Reeg, age 83, passed away on August 12, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:30 am on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, officiated by Fr. Michael Keating. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18 from 4-7 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 pm, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, 1431 W 29th St, South Sioux City, NE. Burial will follow the funeral Service at Saint Michael's Calvary Cemetery, South Sioux City, NE. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jerry was born June 21, 1939, Route 1, Wayne, NE, to Walter John Reeg and Martha Ella Margaret (Bargholz) Reeg. He was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayne, NE. Jerry graduated from Wayne High School, Wayne, NE. Jerry served the United States Navy from November, 1956 to June, 1960, receiving the Good Conduct Medal Award. Jerry was honorably discharged from active duty at Moffett Field, CA, aboard the USS Lexington. He was a member of the USS Lexington Blue Ghost Association and the VFW. Jerry was confirmed into the Catholic Faith at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, South Sioux City, NE in 1965. Jerry married Alice Ann McCarthy on June 5, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel, NE. Jerry worked for Crouse Cartage Company as a truck driver, earning the Two Million Miles Safe Driving award. He was a member of Teamsters Union Locals 554 & 383. Jerry was also a Union Steward. Jerry is survived by his wife, Alice. Children: Laurie (Robert) Kaukola, Sherrie (Raymond) McDonald, Jennifer Reeg - Beckner, and Mary (Ashish) Dhingra. Grandchildren: Rebecca (David) Subert, Krystie (Ryan) Dovenmuehler, Jacob (Brooke) Kaukola, Ashley (Eric) Larson, Ryan (Rachael) McDonald, Katherine (Tanner) McWilliams, Billy (Stefani) Beckner, Alex (Rachel) Reeg - Beckner, Jesse Reeg - Beckner, Jerrad Reeg - Beckner, Brady Hodgins, and Rachel Hodgins. Great - Grandchildren: Abraham and Joshua Subert, Eli and Ava Dovenmuehler, Noah and Kloee Larson, Rory Kaukola, Cooper and Declan McDonald, Landon Beckner, Kayge Oberg, Brynlee Beckner, William Beckner Jr., Nathan Edwards, and Kaysen Reeg - Beckner. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Robert (Deb) Reeg; nephew, David (Kathy) Reeg; niece, Mindy (Keith) Kuhlers; special cousins, Donna Lundin and Patti Field; and family friend, Mona Hodgins. Sisters-in-Law: Margorie (Vernon) Loutsch and Ellen (Charles - Deceased) Livingston. Brothers-in-Law: Daniel P. (Marilyn - Deceased) McCarthy and Jack (Madonna) McCarthy. Many nieces, nephews, great - nieces, and great - nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha Reeg; brother, Melvin Reeg; son-in-law, William (Bill) Beckner; and nephew, Daniel Reeg. Sisters-in-Law: Ruth (Patrick) Rooney, Mary (Sam) Morgan, Caroline McCarthy, and Judith McCarthy. Brother-in-Law: Thomas (Margaret) McCarthy. Jerry’s priority in life was caring for his wife, children, grandchildren, great - grandchildren, extended family, neighbors, and friends. Jerry took pride in living a virtuous way of life, caring for his beautiful lawn, and making sure that his loved ones knew they were most important in his life. Jerry was a good neighbor to mankind. Since education was important to Jerry, he took college classes at Morningside College, Sioux City, IA. Jerry was a Red Cross Blood Donor. Stewardship defined Jerry. Jerry was a good steward, believing that we must take care of creation, and look after it for those that come after us.
