Gladys "Duby" Petersen, 80, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 with her family at her side following a lengthy illness.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in rural Ponca, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Gladys was born in Sioux City, IA on January 9, 1933, the daughter of Samuel and Gladys (Lynn) Yepma. She attended school at South Sioux City High School, where she was also a cheerleader. She met Dick Petersen at the Rigadon Skating Rink. They were married on August 12, 1950. From this union, six children were born. While Dick attended NBT, Gladys worked at TS Martin. In the early days Gladys taught Dick to dance and they enjoyed that time together. She worked at Ross', Bud's and Midway, the South Sioux City local hangouts. She retired from Jones Intercable TV in 1998, after sixteen years of service.Her greatest times while the kids were growing up were camping and Dick's baseball games. She enjoyed the boy's sports and Duby's swimming activities, and was known by the High School swim team as the "Lasagna Mama".She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Eagle's Club.Survivors include her husband Richard "Dick" Petersen of South Sioux City, NE; children, Vickie McArthur of Ponca, NE, Rita and Rex Bossow of Gypsum, CO, Randy (Pete) Petersen of Gypsum, CO, Rob (Roy) Petersen of Ponca, NE, Danny and Jan Petersen of Dakota City, NE and Duby and Ronnie Book of Gypsum, CO; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Gladys Yepma; her sister and brother-in-law, Boots and Alvin Fowler.
