George and Hannah (Trudell) Crosley welcomed Gloria to the world on June 22, 1946, in Yankton, SD, where she joined their growing family as the 7th of 8 children. As you might expect, there was plenty of chaos, love, and laughter in the household during their childhood years, primarily in Niobrara, NE. Even after heading into her adult life, Gloria loved spending time with, and sharing stories of her large extended family.
On February 2, 1974, Gloria married Roland Kluender in Elk Point, SD, and went on to enjoy nearly 48 wonderful years together. Gloria and Roland greatly enjoyed sharing activities and spending time together with their various interests, including many years running their business, United Hairlines. Gloria took pleasure in giving beauty to others via her hair styling skills. In addition, as a team Gloria and Roland provided a loving forever home to multiple small dogs over the years and received much joy and love from their furry little family members.
Gloria gained 2 daughters, Monica and Lyn, through her marriage to Roland and fondly referred to them as “our kids” from that point forward. Gloria would proudly introduce her girls to any and all friends at every opportunity (a practice which later also applied to the grandkids). Five granddaughters later followed (Adara, Trista, Micole, Melanie, and Alexia) and “girl parties” with time at Grandma and Grandpa’s became a common occurrence with much love and laughter. When the next generation arrived and made Gloria a great-grandmother, she and Skylar created a very special bond. Silas’ subsequent arrival provided much joy and Gloria always told everyone how truly blessed she was.
Gloria was deeply spiritual and valued her relationship with God. Daily reading with her husband, Roland, and sister, Carol, enhanced her enjoyment in that spirituality and strengthened their special connections. A love of reading provided solitary enjoyment when she needed moments to herself. Gloria also had a creative side which was expressed via her love of cooking as well as creating beautiful paintings. Gloria loved setting up paint sessions earlier in life with her sisters, and continued later with her grandkids, spending an afternoon together creating memories and masterpieces. Appreciating simple pleasures, Gloria was happiest at home with her family.
Rather than listing those who have preceded her in death, her family takes comfort in knowing that Gloria will be welcomed into heaven by those loved ones. The ones left behind will miss her humor and light every day but cherish the memory of the times we shared.
