Gordon D. Arndt

Gordon D. Arndt, 88, of Hinton, IA, passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 7, 2021.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 10 at 10:30 A.M. at Hinton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Beth Odor officiating.  Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Burial will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Gordon was born on February 24, 1933 in Sioux City to Henry and Marie (Thacker) Arndt.  He lived in Hinton his entire life and graduated from Hinton High School.  He then went on to join the Naval Reserves where he served for 4 years.  He was united in marriage to Doris Bates on September 10, 1952 in Hinton, IA.  Gordon worked as a mechanic at Arndt’s Garage  which he owned and operated with his father and brother for 50 years before retiring in the late 90’s.  He also worked at Weinrich Truck Line for 13 years.  He was a member of Hinton United Methodist Church and councilman for Hinton, and served on the Hinton Fire Department in the 1950’s.  Gordon enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Doris, Hinton, IA; his  children: Deb (Tim) Lang, LeMars, IA, Mike (Renelle) Arndt, Sioux City, IA, Lori (Bob) McQuillen, Windsor, MO; grandchildren: Mark (Stacey) Lang, Melissa (Kris) McKinney, Marcy (David) Camarotto, Micah (Makenzie) Lang, Ben (Liz) McQuillen, Brandon (Danielle) McQuillen, Brady (Ashley) McQuillen, Rani (Chris) Beaulieu, Tara (Matt) Baird, Nik (Amanda) Arndt, Ryan Arndt, Tanaya Arndt, Cole (Jamie) Arndt, Jeff (Chris) Garr, and 27great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Arndt; and sister, Shirley Miller; parents-in-laws: Leslie and Gertrude Bates; sisters-and brothers-in-laws: Darrell and Opal Harrison, Lowell and Virginia Bates, and Bert Miller.
