Gordon "Gordy" Voss, 85, of Ponca, NE passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Elms Health Care Center in Ponca.Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Dr. Bud Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Ponca American Legion. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 4, 2013, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.Gordon was born in Laurel, NE on November 19, 1927, the son of Aubrey and Louise Addison. He grew up in the Ponca and Newcastle area and graduated from Ponca High School in 1945. After graduating from high school he served in the U.S. Navy until 1949. He married Lois Taubert on July 21, 1950 in Newcastle, NE. The couple farmed in rural Newcastle until moving to Ponca in 1960. Gordon worked as a farmer, in the oil fields of Colorado, for Verzani Chevrolet, and he drove a milk route for Gillette prior to his career with the USDA as a meat inspector, retiring in January, 1988.Gordon was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and was also a member of the Ponca American Legion Post.Survivors include his children, Aubby (Ruth) Voss, Sue (Don) Schulte, Gary (Cheri) Voss, Mary Lou (Lin) Smith and Brian (Deanna) Voss, all of Ponca; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Dave) Sutton of Concord, CA, Carol (Stan) Leigh of Ponca, NE, Orla Delle Arnold of South Sioux City, NE and Nan Glaser of Custer, SD; and many nieces and nephews.He was greeted in heaven by his wife of 60 years, Lois; his parents, Aubrey and Louise Addison; father and mother-in-law, Francis and Lola Taubert; a great-grandson, Wyatt Mackling; and brothers-in-law, Bernard and Dean Taubert.The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Elms Health Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland.
