Gordon E. Schmeckpeper

Gordon E. Schmeckpeper, 73, of Sioux City, formerly of Pender, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019.  Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.  Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, November 18, 2019 at the funeral home.  

Gordon was born the son of Edward and Viola (Heineman) Schmeckpeper on August 28, 1946 in West Point, Nebraska.  He worked construction and drove truck around Omaha and Eastern Nebraska for many years.  He made friends at every stop and dock along the way.  He was a true Husker fan, decorating his room and cheering them on for years.  If you knew him well, you knew not to ring his phone during a game.  He was known for his sense of humor and loved harassing anyone around him.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren in their activities. 

Gordon is survived by his children, Wendy (Trent) Woodruff of Lincoln, Paula (Dustin) Wendte of Dakota City, and Crystal Schmeckpeper of Omaha; sisters, Gail (Bill) Harrison of Pender, Bev Fritz of Sioux City, and Lorna Wingett of Thurston; grandchildren, Timothy Woodruff, Melissa (Tony) Valdez, and Lauryn, Jordyn, Addisyn, and Grady Wendte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Les and Stan; sisters, Jan and Linda; and great-grandson, Taiyari Valdez.
