Grace J. Engelhart

March 30, 1943 — January 4, 2022

Grace J. Engelhart, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery. 

Grace was born the daughter of Thomas and Eva (King) Tolan on March 30, 1943 in Fonda, Iowa.  She graduated from Fonda High School in 1962 and later Western Iowa Tech. As a young girl Grace was the oldest of the sixteen siblings, she had her chores around the house and helping with her siblings. When her chores were finished, she liked playing and caring for the family pets, playing table tennis with family and friends, then when older, babysitting for others. Grace married Howard “Chuck” Engelhart, Jr. on February 14, 1961.  Together they had three children, Jerrie, Terry, and Sherry.  They made their home in Fonda and Storm Lake before settling in Sioux City. 

Grace was a homemaker, then worked several jobs as a waitress, massage therapist, Certified Nurse’s Aide at Marion Health Center, and activity assistant at P.A.C.E.  After retirement, Grace kept working and doing volunteer work at the hospitals and church.

She enjoyed doing several crafts, reading, collecting recipes, and their family camping and fishing weekends.

Grace is survived by her son, Terry Engelhart of Sioux City; siblings, Larry Tolan of Fonda, Gregory (Connie) Tolan of Spirit Lake, Sylvia (Mark) Reed of Storm Lake, Theressa (Don) Cersovski of Harrisburg, Oregon, Martha (Bob) Skog of Albert City, Alice (Bob) Barngrover of Sioux Falls, Jim Tolan of Fonda, Beatrice Tolan of Atlantic, Rita Krowiorz of Fonda, and Andy (Susan) Tolan of Fonda; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Jerrie and Sherry; grandchildren, Ernest, Arlyn, and Christine; and siblings, Duane, Theodore, Jake, Richard, and David; and sister-in-law, Susan.
