Harold T. "Sonny" Olejniczak, 63, of Omaha, NE, formerly of South Sioux City, NE passed away at his residence on Friday, August 15, 2014, following a 6 month long illness.Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE with Father Gregory Congote officiating. A private burial with military rites will be held later. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Harold "Sonny" was born in Sioux City, IA on June 20, 1951, the son of Harold and Mary R. (Saggers) Olejniczak. Sonny graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1969, and received his B.A. degree with Honors from Briar Cliff College in 1980. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972.Sonny married the love of his life, Karon L. Chester on July 26, 1975. They lived most of their married life in Omaha, NE, where Sonny was in management at four different oil refinery companies, most recently Riteway.Sonny greatly enjoyed watching all types of sports, particularly baseball, and the Atlanta Braves was his favorite team. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed an occasional game of golf. Sonny was a very quick thinker and you'd be lucky to beat him at any brain game, let alone any sport he enjoyed. He loved spending time with his wife and their pets. Sonny will be missed every day by his family and friends.Survivors include his wife, Karon Olejniczak of Omaha; two sisters, Sandra K. (Neal) Ehrich and Tammy L. (Andrew) Jenkins, both of South Sioux City; one brother, James J. (Mylette Ham) Olejniczak, of South Sioux City; two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Edith) Chester and Jerry (Nancy) Chester of South Sioux City, NE; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Patrick, Yvonne (Gary) Hoblit, and Sharon Boyd, all of South Sioux City, NE, and Georgia (Chuck) Leonard of Sioux City, IA ; and many nieces and nephews.Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Olejniczak; sisters, Margaret R. Thorp and Theresa R. Antrim; brothers-in-law, Terry Thorp, Harold Antrim, David Patrick, and Pete Inkster; sister-in-law, Sherry Olejniczak; and a nephew, James J. Olejniczak, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time.
