Hazel G. Tomek

Hazel G. Tomek, 80, of Dakota City, NE passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in St. Michael's Cemetery in South Sioux City, NE.Hazel was born on September 13, 1936 in Seattle, WA, the daughter of Howard and Hazel Jesper. She grew up, attended school and worked as a dance instructor in Des Moines, WA. Hazel married Harry Tomek on August 11, 1953 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Des Moines, WA. They were married for 63 years. The couple lived in St. Louis, MO for 29 years before moving to Dakota City in 1981. Hazel worked in a bakery, a piston ring factory, and in housekeeping for several motels over the years. She also worked in the kitchen at St. Michael's School in South Sioux City until she retired due to health reasons.She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE and enjoyed spending time with her family and shopping.Survivors include her husband, Harry Tomek of Dakota City, NE; and her sons, Howard (Michelle) Tomek of St. Charles, MO and James Tomek of Dakota City, NE.Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hazel Jesper; and 8 brothers and sisters.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Michael's School in South Sioux City, NE.
