Helen E. Fehr

Helen E. Fehr, 85, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE with Pastor Sheila Taylor of United Methodist Church in Ponca officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca.Helen was born on February 5, 1926 in Falls City, NE, the only child of Harry and Daisy (Stump) Finning. She grew up in Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1944. She married Glen Fehr on July 11, 1948 in Falls City. Glen and Helen had two daughters, Jackie and Ruth. They raised their girls in Decatur, NE while Glen worked construction. Helen was a homemaker until the girls graduated from high school. She then went to work for IBP in Dakota City, NE, and eventually worked at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, IA as an Inhalation Therapist. The couple spent the winter months traveling to Arizona and in 1981 they moved to Black Canyon City, Arizona where Helen worked as a waitress in a small caf and was a cook for "meals on wheels". She also enjoyed writing columns for the local newspaper.Glen and Helen loved to hook up to their travel trailer and stop at camp sites from Canada to Mexico, fishing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Glen passed away on May 20, 2004.As most people knew, Helen loved to go to the casinos and play scratch and pull tickets in between!! Her love for flowers and gardening went well beyond the normal range - flowers were everywhere. She enjoyed going to Elms Nursing Home and playing bingo with her friends. But most of all she did bead work and everyone she knew got a bracelet for good luck.She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Glen.Survivors include two daughters, Jackie of Ponca, NE and Ruth Ann McCluskey and husband, Jim of Wyoming; grandchildren, Johna Oswald and husband, Martin of Wakefield, NE, Tracy Uhl, and husband, Tom of Ponca, NE, Heather Adair and husband, John of Remsen, IA, Dean McCluskey and wife, Darci of Wyoming, and Debbie Hart of Wyoming; 10 great-grandchildren; also her extended family from Arizona, Bert McCarthy and her daughters, Laura, Diane and Misty, and a special new great-grandchild, Bryce Payton.
