Helen Laverne Nordstrom

May 25, 1921 — April 26, 2020

Helen L. Nordstrom, 98, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday April 26, in Richmond, Texas at her daughter Peggy Davis’s home. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Sioux City at a later date.

Helen was born on May 25, 1921 in Meriden, Iowa, daughter of Harry and Bessie (Miles) Enockson. She was the youngest of four daughters. Helen moved to Sioux City at six years old after the death of her mother. She lived with her aunt and uncle, Hilma and Albert Smith. Helen attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1940. She was a life-long member of First Covenant Church where she met her husband, Doug Nordstrom, in youth group. They were married April 5, 1943 in Wakefield, NE. Doug soon left to serve in WWII in the Army Air Force stationed in England. He wrote over a thousand letters home to her the three years they were apart. Doug came home to be a partner at Wagner, Garrison, Abbott Livestock Company. They had 65 years of a loving marriage. We remember Helen for her deep Christian faith, her enormous love for her family, and her servant's heart for so many people.

Helen is survived by their three daughters: Linda (John) Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO; Sally (Donn) Engebretson of Chicago, IL; and Peggy (Todd) Davis of Richmond, TX. She had nine grandchildren: David Nelson, Rebecca Henderson, Rachel Gallagher, Sarah Giovannetti, Kristen Engebretson, Karl Engebretson, Preston Davis, Morgan Davis, Audrey Davis, and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Maurine Hagele, Charlotte Enockson, and Marjorie Whitman; and her husband, Douglas.

Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
